Posted: February 21, 2011 by Will in Bible Teachings

This past Sunday, Pastor Sean preached from Mark 3:20-30. C.S. Lewis wrote that there are three opinions about Christ: 1. He is a lunatic; 2. He is a liar; 3. He is Lord. The truth about Jesus is foundational to the Christian faith. The following is an outline of the sermon:

The Three Opinions About Jesus:
1. He is a liar (v 22)
2. He is a lunatic (v 20-21)
3. He is Lord (v 23-30)

Application

B. Show that you have been given a new heart.
C. A word to those who are struggling: Hang on and don’t give up!

Albert Mohler’s commentaries on Christ and Culture is second to none. This one in particular concerns an adult company based in Toronto:

A Johaninne Study (John 3:6-8)

John Calvin writes, “a man is born only carnal from the womb of his mother; he must be formed anew by the Spirit, that he may begin to be spiritual”.

As the colloquialism goes, “like begets like.” Man does not give birth to beast, nor does beast give birth to man. Kangaroos beget joeys. Bears beget cubs. Rabbits beget bunnies. Cats beget kittens. Mice beget pinkies. Pigs beget piglets. Dogs beget puppies. Humans beget humans. In the same way, only God’s Spirit can give life to the human spirit.

Sermon: He Appointed the Twelve

Posted: February 14, 2011 by Will in Bible Teachings

This past Sunday, Pastor Sean preached from Mark 3:13-21 titled “He Appointed the Twelve.” Jesus chose twelve ordinary men for an extraordinary task. How he chose them sheds light on our own context. To be chosen by God is the highest calling. The following is an outline of the sermon:

1. Jesus called to him those whom he desired (verse 13).
2. Jesus trained them (verse 14a).
3. Jesus had a purpose in mind (verse 14b).
4. Jesus equipped them (verse 15).
5. Jesus brought people together (verse 16a).
6. Jesus calls them personally (verse 16b-19).
